photo365 – Day 349
This is a truely fascinating and beautiful place. It started out as a Catholic church in the 7th century, was expanded and converted to a mosque in the late 8th and then back again to a Catholic cathedral in 1236.
It incorporates elements of early Greek and Roman architecture and reuses columns and other elements recovered from destroyed Roman era buildings.
You can read much more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosque%E2%80%93Cathedral_of_C%C3%B3rdoba .
